Periodically Victoria will rotate some of her favorite tips regarding experimental watermedia! These tips will come from the techniques she regularly teaches in her classes and workshops. Visit this page, or even better, bookmark it, for future tips!

TIP:
When you think you have reached that point of no return in a painting, and there is no possible recovery - don't throw away that expensive paper!

Instead, coat it with gesso, and presto! you have a new working surface. If some of the pigment comes through, and you do not desire that, then give it a second coat after the first one dries. If you like the look of some of the pigment bleeding into the gesso, then I would suggest that you cut the gesso with 50 percent water before you coat it the first time and see what your results are.

Painting on gesso gives a delicate, oriental feel to your subject matter. However, beware that you can lift the pigment right back out again with a damp brush or too much water loaded in the brush when you go back into an area. If you have ever painted on yupo paper, then it is similar to that, but in my opinion, more attractive to the eye because of the subtle lines that develop in the work. Try it, and let me know what you think of the technique, or if you have any questions or difficulties with it.
